Although ascetically pleasing and gentle on the forest, Horse loggers are more and more difficult to find. Horse logging requires skills no longer taught in school (unfortunately) and a great deal of compassion for the animals. There will always be a place for horse logging (logging with oxen is probably restricted to the mural in Chemainus) but there is a way to skid logs gently down narrow trails. The Tremzac Oxtrac may never make it onto a mural. It is a low ground pressure track skidder that punches beyond its weight. At only 1.25m (49") wide it lends its self to selective logging, fire fighting and fire suppression work in interface zones etc. With a skidding capacity of 15,000lbs, this team can move some serious volumes, all day long, without a break. The Perkins diesel just needs a sip now and again. The Oxtrac is not a toy adapted to work in the forest, it is a serious tool designed for hard work in tough conditions. When done properly, cleaning out the under story and thinning the woodland / urban interface will improve silviculture, improve animal habitat and possibly provide fuel for "green heat" (win, win, win).

The Oxtrac was known for years as the ForCAT. Only the name of the animal has changed. The Oxtrac is a great tool that has many more uses. We would like to hear your suggestions.
